Why does my search return no results?

Most empty searches come from the scope, the period or a filter, not from the words. Check where you're searching first, then widen the period, then take the filters off one at a time.

Check the scope

A search in a feed or folder covers only that feed or folder, and a tag or Read later scope covers only the articles you saved there. On the Search page, look at the scope shown under Search in and switch it to Newsfeed to search every feed you follow. How to search for articles describes the page. With Pro, the All public feeds tab searches sources you don't follow.

Widen the period

The search looks back one year unless you change it. Open Specific period and choose All time, or set a Custom interval around the date you have in mind.

Take the filters off

Titles only finds nothing when your words appear only in the text, and a language under Language hides every article written in another language. On Free and Supporter accounts a language filter shows an upgrade notice instead of results, so set it back to All languages. The filters are described in how to filter search results.

Simplify the query

Every word you type has to appear in the article, and a phrase in quotes has to appear word for word. Search for one distinctive word first, then add the others, or join alternatives with OR as how to combine search conditions shows. Check the spelling, since the search matches words exactly as you type them.

Search all public feeds

On the All public feeds tab, Popular sites and Most popular sites search only widely followed sources. Switch to All sites to search every public feed. Feeds that almost nobody follows aren't part of the public index. Global search explains the tab.

Articles Inoreader never collected

The search covers the articles Inoreader collected. An article published before its feed was first added to Inoreader was never collected, and neither was an article from a feed you don't follow, unless you search all public feeds.
